If education is viewed from a narrow, economic profit-and-loss perspective, it may seem like a right decision. If education is only about literacy, this could be considered a good decision. However, if education is viewed in its broader sense, from the perspective of educators, then it is an incorrect decision. The true purpose of education is the holistic development of children, which includes their physical, mental, and emotional growth.

The real meaning of education is to prepare children for every aspect of life, which includes the development of their logical thinking, creativity, physical health, and emotional balance. If education is limited only to academic achievements and the physical and emotional aspects are ignored, it would be considered incomplete and unbalanced education.
Physical education is an integral part of children’s overall development. It is not only necessary for maintaining children’s health but also strengthens their personality, discipline, and mental balance. Without it, achieving the objectives of education would not be possible. It is important to understand that physical education is not just a ‘fun activity,’ but a necessary part of children’s overall development. The government should not abolish physical education post, but instead incorporate sports and physical education as a part of the curriculum rather than treating them as extracurricular activities.
The new education policy has been implemented in the state, and the National Education Policy 2020 also recognizes physical and mental health as an important part of education and indirectly emphasizes adopting the objectives of campaigns like the Fit India Movement. On one hand, the government is implementing the new education policy and promoting the Fit India Movement, and on the other hand, it is abolishing physical education post in schools. This step by the government is contradictory to its own policies.
